Spectacular

Things that made this past week, altogether, pretty spectacular:

For the first time in my adult life, I paid someone to clean my home.

I think this was who did the cleaning.  very practical outfit

I began moving out of my work station (ok, it was just a glamorous cubicle) and into my very own office.  Have a seat and shut the door.

10 points for you if you recognize this office

Almond butter and strawberry jam, on hearty grainy bread.

Still obsessed with this stuff

leaving work at 4:55 on Monday.

I'm outta here suckas

The fact that it has been 100+ degrees all over America, but blessed Oakland has been a perfect 70 degrees all summer long.  58 degrees during my morning runs = perfection.

I am saving so much money this summer, which I usually spend on 7-11 stops during my hot sweaty runs.

All my runs have been overcast like this pic of Lake Merritt.  I love it.

The Gentleman got a bonus.

good job sweetie!! now buy me presents.  just kidding.

Ginger biscuits.

Follow these directions: Go to Cost Plus World Market.  Go to the british food section.  Find the shelves with round sleeves of biscuits.  Buy at least 5 different kinds.  We have enjoyed: Oaties; digestives; biscoff; ginger biscuits; fruit shortcake biscuits; gingerbread and cinnamon biscuits...

I looked at pictures of my sister giving birth.  Amazing, and yet incredibly frightening.  I remain terrified of the stuff my body is supposed to do.

worth the hurt.  Yes, I stole that slogan from the SF Marathon.

Mad Men started streaming on Netflix.  And since, has been on about 50% of the time that we are home.

I love the scenes where they all gather and pose

I still don't care about the stock market.  Gold this, oil that, investment blah, dow jones bleh, nasdaq my butt.

Shh, I have to check the index of the S&P on Wall Street!!!

I got a 20 miler in before work on Wednesday.  It's been a few months since my last, and it makes the whole day 20x better.  It helped bring me to exactly 70 miles for the week.

I'm including the 5 meters of skipping I did outside our apartment.

New Kashi cereal, which is a sweet mix between Pops and Corn Nuts

I like snacking on it dry

I went to the Napa Outlets before visiting my perfect niece on Saturday, and tried on a dozen dresses at the Max Studio outlet.  I grew up 1 mile from these outlets, and never noticed how awesome this store was before.  I bought 2 dresses.  I officially never wear pants.

seriously, my home is so clean.  Love.

  1. I practically orgasm every time my cleaning lady comes and takes care of my trashtastic home. Aren't they THE BEST?!?

So jealous of your 58 degrees.

Yeah, natural birth is a bit terrifying when it's happening, but then all of a sudden it's over! I swear, I felt like I could have gone for a jog after we wrapped things up down there. The human body is AMAZING!!

I am so jealous you get to run in such nice weather.

Nice mileage for the week! That is so neat that you ran 20 miles before work. You are one amazing runner. :)

  5. My husband and I have been debating hiring someone to come and clear our home. Right now it looks like an effing sty so it really should not be a matter for debate any longer.

  6. I was thinking 9 to 5, but the doors look off.

We hired a cleaning service after I started having mental breakdowns about spending my Saturdays cleaning. I know it's totally princessy and terrible, and sounds really snotty, but I really don't like spending the 1.5 days I have off per week cleaning and dirty houses stress me out. There's something about coming home on Friday to a pristine house.

  7. Hi Lady!! Thanks for the comment on my site, you are so nice:)

Hiking is incredible, isn't it? I will do a post on Grand Canyon rim-to-rim. It is most def. a 'must do'! By the end of the hike you are absolutely exhausted but have such a sense of accomplishment. I agree with you, summer would be a NO GO! We did it in October (actually the last weekend before the closed the north rim lodge for the winter) and it was still pretty hot. One day I want to do rim-to-rim-to-rim!

I'll do a post on the details of a fruitarian diet. Check out Micheal's site (http://www.thefruitarian.com/) in the mean time. He is both a fruitarian and an amazing runner!

  8. Congrats on the office move! That's always exciting.

Have someone else clean your house is the most wonderful thing. I started it again last May and am ever so thankful on the days she comes in.

And finally -- I was at your lake on Saturday!! There was a small little 10k that was run around Lake Merritt -- I didn't realize the lake was right in the middle of Oakland. Way cool to have something like that right out your door.

  12. Congrats on it all! I'm totally in the minority here but I had an office when I was a youngster engineer. Now I share a cube and love it. I get really lonely otherwise and can easily pass the day without speaking to anyone which is sort of sad! haha :).

  13. i've actually toyed with the idea of hiring someone to clean my house. It's like a hundred bucks right? They scrub shit so clean it's like you just moved in..maybe i'll do that before my friends come to visit..oh ILLUSIONS. Great positive things this week. Bonus in the middle of summer?

  14. I am seriously so jealous right now of you having your house cleaned. I have always wanted to do that, but have always been to cheap. Considering I have the day off work today and I'm planning on spending the majority of it cleaning, I think it might be worth it though.

  15. I so badly want someone to clean my house. Are you loving it or what?!?!

Having an office is huge. You will love being able to close the door when you need to. It's fab.

  16. Is it bad that I think I know who that girl in that maid outfit? I think its Sara Jean Underwood of G4 and playboy fame. lol

Awesome on the office! As for what office it is, I'm going to go with Anchorman. Likely way off, haha

I love biscuits - going to New Zealand and London I had them constantly!

Mad Men is indeed awesome, scary part is that it is probably really accurate to the workplace back in the 1960s!

Yea, you probably have had perfect weather in Oakland right now, even better than the south bay, where it gets a little warmer than Oakland.

The stock market has indeed been nuts, I almost want to buy more at these low prices. I just put a fixed % on my 401k per paycheck and just keep investing. Who knows is this is good or bad!

  17. the office pic just reminded me how much I miss Mad Men. The delay is killing me. As well as the wait for your next post.

So, did you decide whether you're racing CIM? I registered today after getting locked out of Santa Rosa (I'm torn up about it). Hope SacTown works in your schedule!

  18. So many great things things from this post - a cleaning lady, an office with a door and the fact you can run 20 miles before work!

Not so great thinking about giving birth - the idea terrifies me. :)

I totally tell people I am checking the stock market when really I am looking at facebook!
